Farmer's markets in and around Cambridge in 2023

06/12/23  |  Rebecca Taplin

Last Thursday in my city of Melrose, I went to my first farmer's market of the season. I picked up a fresh crêpe, some greens, and attended a live presentation on Mary Livermore, a Civil War nurse, suffragette, and anti-corset activist from Melrose. I love how you never know exactly what you'll encounter at the farmers market. If you live nearby, I suggest you come and check it out. If you're closer to Cambridge, go to any of these markets. Enjoy the fresh food and the surprises that await you!

Buying fresh produce, meat, and handmade goods doesn’t have to be difficult. Since farmers markets have exploded in popularity in recent years, nearly every city and town in the Cambridge area hosts at least one farmers market a week during the growing season—and many hold markets year-round. Buying locally is easier on the environment, connects residents with the land, and brings communities together. Plus, each market has its own character, so it’s fun to branch out and visit markets outside your immediate neighborhood. We at Liz & Ellie Local are all about connecting people with their neighbors, so we’ve compiled a list of farmers markets in Cambridge, Somerville, and beyond. Attend your local market for the first time, the hundredth time, or travel to one you’ve never been to before. Maybe we’ll see you there!
